Fall 2024
Phase 1 : Build a strong foundation
Initial ground research: Met with leaders from collegiate EMS agencies across the state to learn how their programs started (Duke, ECU, Chapel Hill, Western and App State).
Joined the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF) as a start-up member. Connected with regional director.
Began initial 1:1 meetings with UNC Charlotte admin across 3 different departments (Department of Emergency Management, Student Affairs and Student Health).
Gained a UNC Charlotte staff advisor and began having weekly meetings (maintained this function for 6 months)
Established an official EMS student organization on campus focussed on emergency preparedness.
Initialized early support from potential Medical Directors
Spring 2025
Phase 2 : Build support
Vice Chancellor did not approve the continuation of the project
Presented idea to key community medical partners (Atrium, Medic, etc.) and discussed future partnership after university approval
Gained support on campus with student group growing to 6 members (EMT"s and paramedics)

First in-kind donation received (worth over $15,000 from Idlelwild Volunteer Fire Department
Idea was presented to Vice Chancellor by the Assistant Vice Chancellor on our behalf (was not given audience with the Chancellor)
Vice Chancellor did not approve the continuation of the project
Initiation of the Student EMS Initiative (with admin support)
Petition crossed the 300 signatures mark
First set of media interviews
Received letters of support from Chapel Hill and Wake Forest medical leadership to support UNC Charlotte student in the establishment of campus EMS
Meeting with Vice Chancellor to present our idea in our own voice (was not given audience with the Chancellor)
Addressed concerns to Mecklenburg Board of Trustees
Addressed concerns to City Council
Making continual appeal to meet with Chancellor and Board to present our ideas and discuss options
Initiative grew to over 20 members with EMT or paramedic certification
Petition crossed the 600 signatures mark
